One English lesson that really stood out to me was about giving directions. I had this lesson back when I was in high school, probably in grade 10. Even though it was quite a few years ago, I still remember it vividly because of how practical and engaging it was.

The topic of the lesson was how to give and understand directions in English — things like “go straight,” “turn left,” “across from,” or “next to the supermarket.” At first, it sounded simple, but the way the teacher conducted the class made it both fun and memorable.

Our teacher didn’t just stick to the textbook. She organized lots of hands-on activities. For example, we were put into pairs and given small maps. One person had to guide the other to a destination using only English, and the other had to follow the directions exactly. We also did some role-playing where one person acted as a lost tourist and the other had to help them find a famous landmark in the city. Everyone got really into it, and we had so much fun pretending to be locals or travelers.

What made this lesson so enjoyable for me was how useful it turned out to be in real life. A few months later, some foreign tourists asked me for directions near a bus stop. Normally, I would’ve panicked or just smiled awkwardly, but thanks to that lesson, I knew exactly what to say. I felt proud of myself for being able to help them confidently and clearly.

To this day, I still remember the vocabulary and phrases we learned. It wasn’t just a fun class — it was a practical life skill. I think that’s why it left such a strong impression on me.
