In 2010, 11.8 million passenger vehicles were registered, while the figure for commercial ones was significantly lower at only 2.3 million. Over the following four years, the number of passenger vehicles rose by 10.2% to 13 million, whereas there were 0.4 million more commercial vehicles registered, a rise of 17.4%.
Turning to the remaining types of vehicles, the greatest increase was recorded for motorcycles, which grew from 540,000 registered in 2010 to 709,000 in 2014, an increase of 30.8%. During the same period, the numbers of heavy trucks and light trucks registered also rose, by 8.3% and 23.5%, respectively.

The table illustrates the number of five different categories of vehicles that were registered in Australia in three years 2010, 2012 and 2014.
It is clear that the quantities of these kinds of vehicles increased over the period shown. In addition, the figure for passenger vehicles was by far highest during the surveyed period, whereas the opposite was true for light trucks.
Starting at 11.8 million and 2.3 million in the first year, the number of passenger and commercial vehicles rose moderately to 13 million and 2.7 million respectively over the following four years, as illustrated by a 10.2% and 17.4% growth. Likewise, the figure for light trucks increased considerably by 23.5% after 4 years, from 106,000 in 2010 to 131,000 in 2014.
As for the quantity of motorcyles, it began at 540,000 in 2010 then witnessed the most dramatic rise of the research period,as presented by a growth of 30.8% to 709,000 in the last year. By contrast, the figure for heavy trucks increased by only 8.3% over this period.
