When I was in high school, there was a rule that I really disliked. The rule was that if one student made a mistake or broke a rule, such as forgetting to do their homework or causing some kind of disruption, the entire class would be punished. This usually meant having points deducted from the class overall score, which was used to evaluate the class performance and discipline.

One of the main reasons why I disliked this rule was that I believed it was unfair. I don’t think it’s right to punish innocent students for something they didn’t do or had no control over. In my opinion, people should take responsibility for their own actions rather than allowing their mistakes to affect everyone else.

For example, if one student arrived late to school or forgot to do their homework, it didn’t make sense for 30 or 40 other students to suffer the consequences as well. I remember there were many occasions when the majority of the class worked extremely hard to maintain the class score, yet we still lost points because of the behavior of just one or two individuals.

Another reason is that this rule made me question the very purpose of punishment. I believe punishment should be used to correct the behavior of people who break the rules and help them learn from their mistakes. So if that’s the case, why should innocent students be punished alongside those who were actually responsible?

Another thing is that this rule could lead to blame and resentment. I remember whenever the class lost points, everyone would immediately start looking for the person responsible. In some cases, that student would be criticized or even isolated by their classmates. So instead of creating a healthy learning environment where people help one another, this rule actually damaged relationships among classmates.

So looking back, this was probably the school rule that I disliked the most.

Ví dụ, nếu một học sinh đi học muộn hoặc quên làm bài tập về nhà, thì việc 30 hoặc 40 học sinh còn lại cũng phải chịu hậu quả là điều hoàn toàn không hợp lý. Tôi nhớ đã có rất nhiều lần mà phần lớn các bạn trong lớp đều cố gắng hết sức để giữ điểm thi đua của lớp. Thế nhưng, cuối cùng cả lớp vẫn bị trừ điểm chỉ vì hành vi của một hoặc hai cá nhân.

Một lý do khác là quy định này khiến tôi phải suy nghĩ về mục đích thực sự của việc trừng phạt. Tôi tin rằng hình phạt nên được sử dụng để sửa chữa hành vi của những người vi phạm nội quy và giúp họ rút kinh nghiệm từ sai lầm của mình. Nếu đúng là như vậy, thì tại sao những học sinh vô tội lại phải bị phạt cùng với những người thực sự gây ra lỗi?

Một điều khác nữa là quy định này có thể dẫn đến sự đổ lỗi và tâm lý oán trách lẫn nhau. Tôi nhớ rằng mỗi khi lớp bị trừ điểm, mọi người sẽ ngay lập tức tìm xem ai là người phải chịu trách nhiệm. Trong một số trường hợp, học sinh đó còn bị các bạn trong lớp chỉ trích hoặc thậm chí bị cô lập. Vì vậy, thay vì tạo ra một môi trường học tập lành mạnh, nơi mọi người giúp đỡ lẫn nhau, quy định này lại làm tổn hại đến các mối quan hệ giữa các bạn cùng lớp.

Nhìn lại, đây có lẽ là nội quy ở trường mà tôi không thích nhất.
